Why is it when I tell unbelievers I don’t celebrate Halloween, they understand … Yet when I explain my beliefs to Christians, they feel offended & confused?

This whole “celebrating” Halloween thing has been a point of contention for believers for some time now.  But here are my opinions on the matter and better yet, truths from the Word of God.

4 Reasons NOT to Celebrate Halloween

Reason #1: It’s a Trick, not a Treat

If you know anything about Halloween, reading 1 Samuel 28 will sound eerily similar.  Apparently Saul had an unfortunate change of heart about banishing the witches and wizards from the land (1Sam. 28:3).  And he, as the king of Israel, rushed out into the darkness of the night in a “disguise of other raiment” to seek the help of a medium woman to consult the spirits of the dead …

For those who do not know.  This is what the satanists, witches, warlocks, and sorcerers do in their “celebration” of Halloween night.  They go into the night, in various attire, and seek the spirits of the dead … what they do goes much deeper, but this is a main piece of their pagan ritual.

The finish of 1 Samuel 28 is not a happy one.  Saul’s fear leads him to seek evil sources of power instead of answers from the One True God. He has a discussion with the spirit of the prophet Samuel (who’s rather upset about being ushered up out of death to talk with “God’s enemy” Saul).  He informs him that Saul will surely die along with his sons the very next day and that Israel shall be defeated by the Philistines …

Reason #2: The Bible Tells Me So …

If you raise your children in the Word of God you will automatically inform them that God is Light (1John 1:5b).  If you were raised in a “hard core Holy Ghost, Jesus Freak” kind of home, like myself, you were told about the Book of Revelation and God’s damnation for those who practice magic arts and witchcraft (Rev. 21:8).

Have you ever heard of Jezebel?  God was none too kind to her wickedness and “witch-like” ways (2 Kings 9:22).

In my own life growing up, I knew the basics, such as, not to disobey my elders, not to lie, not to steal… these I considered the Big “no no’s” of life. 

But if anyone had ever suggested handing me a book for a good read, such as Twilight or Harry Potter (written by a self-professing witch), I would have run from their presence so as to not be struck by the lightning bolt I knew God was sending down.

You may think that’s a little much, but it’s the truth.  God does not allow us to play with the spirit realm, no matter how “fun” it may seem.

Reason #3: It’s a Slow Fade …

This is how I see it …

If you tell little Billy that Halloween is a day of fun-filled candy grabbing, that there is nothing wrong with dressing up like a vampire and carving a jack-o-lantern, that’s what he will believe. 

But by expressing your support for Halloween, you must realize that once Billy grows up, you have already planted a seed within him, that dark and scary things are more amusing than real. 

Now, little Billy has turned 13 and tells you how much fun he had at a Halloween party the night before.  He tells you that everyone gathered around and became completely freaked out when his friend Tommy asked the Ouija board a question … and it answered.  He tells you it was so “spooky” but so fun and he cannot wait until next year’s party!

Reading this, you might be thinking, Wow, she’s gone off the deep end telling me my kids will grow up to play with the Occult just because I let them dress up on Halloween …

Yes, yes, I have gone off of the deep end and I AM saying that your kid may very well accept the Occult because you let him dress up as a little vampire on a Satanic Holiday!

Sometimes “having a good time” is just not as important as making a stand. 

And although you may feel as if you are depriving your child of an entire holiday, you need to explain to them that it most certainly is a holiday.  It is the “Holiest” Day for the enemies of God.

If you believe in Jesus, then you must believe that there is a spirit realm.  And in that spirit realm there is Darkness and there is Light.  We must choose the light if our kids are to have a chance of living in this chaotic world without being a part of it (John 17:16).

Darkness is Darkness, it does not come in “stages of badness.”  It is always wrong, whether it comes in a dash or a complete saturation.

AND IT IS A BIG DEAL!

Reason #4: Halloween is Not Christmas

What’s the Difference?

There are many holidays Christians believe have had their root in pagan religions, such as Easter and Christmas, however, Halloween differs in that it was rooted in and still is founded in the Spirit of the Occult.

You may hear all about the Nordic and Gaelic cultures who celebrate new beginnings and have Festivals of Light for their pagan rituals.  You may hear that Christians “redeemed” these pagan beliefs, and BOOM, there sprang Christmas!!

But the fact of the matter is … Jesus was born and believers wanted an actual date to celebrate that.  If your family is anything like mine, we have no interest in celebrating the Celtic “Festival of Light.”  We only want to celebrate Jesus’ birth and if that date happens to be near a time when pagan’s party … it’s really none of our concern.

Halloween however … was pagan, is pagan, and will forever be a celebration of the themes of darkness and the demonic realm.  Jesus has never been invited to this party and has no place in its celebration. 

The basis of Halloween is founded in a Celtic festival called Samhain (pronounced “sah-win”). The Gaelic festival of Samhain is a celebration of harvest season’s end. The ancient Gaels believed that on October 31, the boundaries between the worlds of the living and the dead overlapped and the deceased would come back to life and cause havoc such as sickness or damaged crops. 

I understand Christians are trying to relate to their communities, however, it is my opinion  that in these serious times precluding Jesus’ return, we should stop praying in tongues on Sunday morning as if we know the SPIRIT of God is real and then watching Harry Potter on Monday because the level of entertainment overturns the demonic spirituality the show portrays.

We need to make a clear distinction between good and bad, right and wrong!

Let’s get back to the basics … No amount of candy is worth your integrity.

If after reading this, you want to party hardy in a princess dress on Halloween night, go for it.  God judges the heart.

But for those of you who read this blog and feel a little tugging on the inside of you, to maybe change up what you believed this holiday to be; go with it.  It could be God trying to tilt your heart away from “cultural norms” and into something greater.

It’s your choice.
