Ocean waves run in and out. They change their look, change their direction, and show their personality … But they NEVER change their substance.
God is Like the Ocean.
He shows off. He alters how He does what you believe He will do, His directions shift, He rescues you with a miracle one day and gives you a chance to jump in the next. He shows His power, drawing you out further and further into the current and then in an instant, becomes the perfect image of stillness.
He is a paradox.
He seems angry at times, with waves crashing in such an unpredictable way, you feel you may drown. But then, He leads you to safety, telling you to dive into the crashing waves, deeper and deeper.
When you come up for air, you see the storm has gone and God has spared you, in His own way, in His own timing.
God is Like the Ocean.
There is no one like Him in all the Earth. He is the picture of quiet beauty one moment and the Conductor of rhythmic whitecaps the next.
It is commonly believed in Church, that God never changes … and the concept is true (Malachi 3:6, Hebrews 13:8), but I believe a more fitting statement might be, God never Changes WHO HE IS.
He shows off His power, His knowledge, His wisdom, His beauty, His genius at different times in different ways, but He is Always Yahweh-the Covenant-Keeping God of His people. WHO HE IS, NEVER ALTERS.
In Exodus 32 we read that God changed His mind …
God does NOT change … WHO He is … Yet He often changes WHAT He does.
As the Ocean dances and roars with movement, God alters and shifts things in our lives constantly. But one basic fact remains, His substance, His character, THE INTEGRITY OF WHO HE IS, CAN BE TRUSTED. THAT NEVER CHANGES.
He has too many facets to ever begin to assess them all in one little blog.
But like the sea, He is a mystery with hidden treasures and glorious strength; He cannot be tamed, and yet has the ability to lavish more peace than you could ever imagine.
I think God meant for us to find Him there. In the salty breeze of the sea. In the motion of the rushing tides.
They reveal His heartbeat. His creativity. His brilliance.
Just as the sea changes direction, form, and appearance, our God may direct us in ways we could never have expected. But in the end, all waves lead to shore. There is a pattern in the madness. A cause in the creativity, that may seem at first, to be complete chaos.
We can trust our God because He will never stop being WHO He says He is.
I think that’s why He made the sea… For me to look at it and think of Him. For me to be reminded that the way He works out His will in my life, will always be full of surprises.
God is Like the Ocean.
Catch the Wave,
Victoria
