Have you ever noticed in life how easy it is to let days, weeks, months, and even years go by without thinking much about the unbelievably good things God has done?
There isn’t a day that goes by in which you won’t see God’s hand of protection guarding your heart, mind, and life. He favors and blesses us every second… with or without our acknowledgement.
Think about something for a moment. How bad do you feel when you do something thoughtful for someone else and they don’t take time to notice or care about what you did?
It’s a little disheartening for sure.
In the same way, the Holy Spirit is an actual Person with real feelings and when we FORGET TO REMEMBER Him and His help, it disappoints Him…
I wrote a song once called “Holy Spirit, Help Me Remember.” It was written based off of a sermon I heard about the Holy Spirit as our Divine Reminder.
This message so inspired me that I went home and wrote a song (using the 4 chords I knew on my guitar) about how much I need the Holy Spirit to be my Reminder.
Every time I sing that song to Him, I feel convicted; I so desperately need the Holy Spirit to remind me of “the tender mercies I forgot” as one line in the song reads because unfortunately, I do indeed forget to remember sometimes…
In the past, when I felt hurt, I would often let that pain in too deeply and my focus would alter from Christ and all He has given me, to MYSELF and all the things I felt I had lost.
It’s at those times, I can become so consumed by my own needs, my new problems, and my fresh pain that I discard My God’s miracles, His goodness, His undeserved grace, and all of the times He has already delivered me.
This isn’t the way things should be.
What would happen if the roles were reversed?
What if I were the one REMINDING God of all He has done in my life?
As Christ-followers, we should be recounting the faithful and illustrious acts of The Lord… the countless Jordan Rivers He has safely brought us across (Psalm 118:17, Isaiah 63:7)…
We shouldn’t have to have Him constantly remind us how blessed we are, how healthy we are, and how favored our lives are because of His Grace! We should be CONSTANTLY IN WORSHIP before Him for those things every chance we get.
In a perfect world, that’s how it would be…
Yet, THE HOLY SPIRIT IS A GENTLEMAN. He will never condemn you and I, only REMIND us of what to do. When the Holy Spirit reminds, He always pushes us along with the gentlest of touches. He is never forceful and always full of GRACE.
We should never settle in our glorious favor without a grateful heart.
May we not become like the 9 lepers that Jesus healed who NEVER CAME BACK to show their appreciation for the miracle they undeservingly received (Luke 17).
We must commit in our hearts to always relate with that one leper who when healed, “FELL PROSTRATE at Jesus’ feet, thanking Him [over and over]” (Luke 17:16a).
Be that one believer who NEVER FORGETS where he came from! If you’ve been through something deeply painful (and chances are if you’ve been alive more than five minutes- you have), recall those past hurts and TELL THE LORD how much you appreciate His loving Hand snatching you from the darkness!
We should have the praise of God on our lips every moment… not just because we are suppose to or because it gives us a boost of “feel-good” endorphins, but because OUR HEART MELTS WHEN WE REMEMBER what we deserved and what JESUS GAVE US INSTEAD. How BROKEN we were and how WHOLE we are now in Him!
Think of something new to Praise Him for everyday! You will NEVER run out of reasons to worship Him… I PROMISE!
