lion

I know you’ve heard it.  Katy Perry’s new hit song, “Roar.”  If you haven’t, you’re probably missing out on one of the best lyrical songs written in a really long time. This message, not the song itself is what I want to share today.  Check out the chorus:

I got the eye of the tiger, a fighter, dancing through the fire
Cause I am a champion and you’re gonna hear me ROAR
Louder, louder than a lion
Cause I am a champion and you’re gonna hear me ROAR!

Every time I hear this song, I picture myself dancing inside of a great fire like Daniel, except I’m laughing and praising God the whole time.  Then, I turn around and raise my hands slowly to form my claws, look right at the devil – his stupid traps, his lying face, his temptations, attacks and all of the above – and I give the greatest roar that I’ve got!  It looks something like this.

Well, not exactly.

But, this is how I picture myself in the spirit.  I am fierce!  Why? Because I can.  Why?  Because of this.

“Mwana simba ni simba.”

It’s Swahili meaning, “The child of a lion is a lion.”  I had never heard this before until two weeks after I had heard Katy’s song, when I had my face melted off at the True Beauties women’s revival here in Charlotte.  The first night, Dr. Minnie Chavda spoke and referenced the Swahili proverb, “The daughter of a lion is also a lion.”  I went home, did a little Internet research and found it.  I’ve been marinating on it ever since.

Here I am literally screaming, “Cause I am a lion, and you’re going to hear me roar!” and this whole time, God has been roaring back at me, “Yes you are! You just don’t know why.”

The “why” is what I want you to focus on for the rest of this year.  Pay attention (in my school teacher voice):

  1. Jesus is the King; and He has already won every battle you will ever face. ”Then one of the elders said to me, ‘Do not weep! See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed.  He is able to open the scroll and its seven seals.’” (Rev. 5:5 NIV)
  2. Declaring Jesus as king over ALL things in your life is giving Him praise!“Judah, your brothers will praise you; your hand will be on the neck of your enemies; your father’s sons will bow down to you. You are a lion’s cub, Judah; you return from the prey, my son.  Like a lion he crouches and lies down, like a lioness—who dares to rouse him?  The scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet until he to whom it belongs shall come and the obedience of the nations shall be his.” (Gen. 49: 8-10 NIV)
  3. As a believer in Jesus, you are God’s precious child and in His royal family.  “For He foreordained us (destined us, planned in love for us) to be adopted (revealed) as His own children through Jesus Christ, in accordance with the purpose of His will because it pleased Him and was His kind intent].” (Eph. 1:5 AMP)

Get IT?  ”Why?” Because God says so in His Word, and He cannot lie!

The reason you can roar…Because you are the cub of the Lion of Judah by God’s love and desire to adopt you into His family.  You are an heir of God and a co-heir with Christ!ROAR!

The reason you can dance through the fire…Because way back in the day, Jesus was the fourth man in the fiery furnace with the Hebrew boys.  He descended to hell, ascended to heaven, AND He’s gone to prepare a place for you. You can praise Him in any situation.  A LITTLE LOUDER THIS TIME…RROOAARR!

The reason you are a fighter and a champion…Because God told you to fight the good fight of faith.  He told you that you are more than a conqueror.  He told you that you have overcome by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of YOUR testimony! TO THE TOP OF YOUR LUNGS…RRRRROOOOOAAAAARRRR!!!!

THAT’S WHY. Because He said so.  It’s just that simple.  What promises have you neglected?  What lies are bombarding your brain?  You’d better open your mouth and roar!  Roar the word of God!  Because you can.

Hope you enjoyed your cup!

Roaring and dancing in Christ,

Saki Milton
