In designing my tattoo I wanted to illustrate the idea of one act leading to many, so I left the ‘O’ in ‘One’ open to show that it is never closed & finished. Jesus’ one act of obedience on the cross is still making many righteous.
One thing most of my friends know about me is that I didn’t grow up in a strong Christian household. Because of that I was never really taught WHY we obey God, just the principle that we were suppose to. But never hearing the heart behind this command of God really didn’t give it much of a pull in my life.
The first time I started recognizing the appeal to “obey” God and the Holy Spirit’s prompting was at Elevation Church. And I don’t remember hearing any particular sermon on obedience that pushed me to understand the concept; it was just little promptings here and there from Pastor Steven. Simple words such as, “serve,” “give,” and “love.” Then I read a verse that spoke very clearly to me about obedience to God. Romans 5:19 which says,
“For just as through the disobedience of the One man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the One man the many will be made righteous.”
Obviously the verse is speaking of Adam’s fall and of Jesus’ salvation, but I believe God wants us to realize the significance of the idea that One act can lead to the fall or restoration of many. There really is a domino effect caused by Our everyday choices.
When I reflect on this verse, it blows my mind. We all became sinners by the disobedience of ONE man. One wrong step, One sin, One slip away from God… What would happen if you started looking at your sin in this way? Do you count the repercussions of your disobedience? It doesn’t just affect YOU.
On the brighter side, the obedience of ONE act has the same great magnitude. It will make MANY righteous. Do you count the impact of your obedience? The chain reactions from your single and often times simple acts of obedience, you may never get to witness. But it creates a current for God to work through to reach others.
My challenge to you all is to think of something God has been calling you to do recently, big or small. And act. See what God does in your life because of it. You will be amazed! And if you can’t think of anything, pray about it. God will open doors that will stretch your faith by calling you to be obedient.
Catch the Wave.
