We have just learned that a main piece in the puzzle of Worship, is Obedience; doing what God has asked with a humble heart is the surest way to please Him…

But let’s go over Worship as seen through the eyes of Honor.

As a Worship Leader, I have some serious personality quirks … (pause before judging … you may have them too).

I tend to have an innate ambition to survey any room I enter and ensure all Honor bestowed, is being directed to the One it is due.

I don’t know why, but Worship Leading and hearts of justice just seem to go hand in hand; when I observe glory being given to anyone other than my God, I become indignant! I feel as if it is my duty to gather up all praise and lift it towards Heaven.

Just as God is jealous for our love (Deut. 4:24, Ex. 20:5), we should be jealous for Him to receive all glory! (1 Kings 19:10).

Because of this passion commonly found in those who Lead Worship, another term for Worship Leader could easily be, “Honor Leader.” We love to DIRECT HONOR where it belongs and find pleasure in showing others how to do the same.

What you may not know is that as a believer in Christ, YOU are called to be an “Honor Leader” as well! You are no more exempt from leading worship than the kid musician with the Justin Bieber hair-cut singing Amazing Grace on Sunday mornings.

As Worship Leaders, we all must be covetous of God’s Glory, REFUSING to see any other rival get the praise only He deserves.

Being an Honor Leader means that we are called to guide people in worship everywhere we go and in everything we do. The purpose of Worship is to exalt the Name of our God above every other Name- to Lead in our offices, our grocery stores, and our homes.

Directing honor is actually pretty simple; If Christ is Lord of your life, you will have an automatic desire to place Him in the spotlight every chance you get!

If you will indulge me … God is a bit like coffee … (wander into my eccentric mind for a moment:) …

Once you’ve tasted and seen the goodness of all that He is, you want to tell everyone! You want to share a cup with your family, your friends, your neighbors. It’s just too wonderful to keep to yourself!

And when someone who may not like coffee, informs you just how much they dislike it, something rises within you to defend this thing that has altered your life so significantly!

Now, have no fear, I do realize that our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ totally has the upper hand when compared with coffee … but those coffee-lovers out there, know exactly what I mean.

The point is, if you cannot play the piano or sing like Andrea Bocelli, no worries! You can still GUIDE those you know to their Creator.

Directing Honor or Worship can happen anywhere …

At work, when someone tells you that you are doing a great job, simply guide their praise to the One it belongs. When a co-worker wants to gossip, simply cut off the conversation or begin to declare words of grace over that person (that’s Christianese for say something nice about the person being dissed). You can even direct Honor to God privately, humming a song of thanks to Him as you go about your day …

The purpose is to turn your activity into something that CHANGES YOUR ATMOSPHERE and points those around you to Christ.

These small steps will make a big difference!

To Honor. THIS IS WORSHIP.

Catch the Wave,
Victoria
